Macaroni Kid got to sample Happy Family Products and they were GOOD!

My house was filled with the smell of banana, children and the sound of their little feet running around. I had the pleasure of hosting ten great families and sharing fun and new recipes, foods and snacks with them.  Happy Family sponsored a cooking and food tasting party highlighting their cookbook, Happy Family Organic Superfoods Cookbook for Baby & Toddler and a number of their snacks products to sample. Let's just say there wasn't anything left to eat at the end of the party. Everyone left with full bellies, smiles on their faces and their Easter egg hunt loot (I filled the eggs with grain dinos snacks, puffs, chick straws and stickers). No one even mentioned the word candy; in fact I even had a mother say, "these are all healthy snacks, thank you!".

I have to admit I was a little intimidated when I first flipped through the cookbook. I wasn't convinced I could really pawn off all of the healthy ingredients (such as flax seeds, prunes, quinoa & beet chips) as snacks, but I did and they ate it...and the best part is they enjoyed it! Turns out they actually don't know the difference between sugar and apple sauce sweetened muffins. This was a great experiment for me because I have to admit I just assumed my kiddos wouldn't like a lot of these healthy options, but I was wrong. Henry ate four bran and apricot muffins, yes four. Before you judge and think to yourself, "who let's a baby eat four muffins?" remember I was hosting ten families, he was happy and therefore quiet and it wasn't until later I learned he had finished a total of four muffins. The point is he liked them, I mean really liked them. We learn something new everyday and that day I learned that children will eat bran if you just offer it to them (and if you look the other way they may even eat a lot of it).

My personal favorite creation, the chocolate chip, banana and quinoa muffins. They were literally delicious and basically tasted like chocolate chip, banana awesomeness. They went fast, even with Henry's attention on the bran and apricot muffins. It is safe to say these weren't just my favorite. The Grilled Nut Butter and Berry & Sandwiches with Chia are definitely mention worthy because these are basically grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches so of course the kids liked them. You can get a visual of Henry enjoying these below.

The moral of the story; don't be intimidated by chia seeds, sunflower seed butter or tahini. These ingredients are at your local grocery store, they are edible and even tasty. You can find the Happy Family Organic Superfoods Cookbook on Amazon if you're intrigued. I gave my copy to one of my lucky guests and so I will just have to buy one for myself and add it to my library. How else will I be able to recreate those chocolate chip, banana awesomeness muffins?
