I don't know about you guys buy the grandmas and the grandpas in my life are having an exceptionally hard time being away from their grand babies. I wanted to find some ways to help my kids and yours connect through technology and make it FUN! My little's are 2 & 6 and they can focus on the computer for about 3 minutes before running off distracted, leaving grandmas, aunts, uncles etc. longing for connection. I have been gathering ideas and games that might help everyone feel a little more connected and maybe even give you a moments respite while they are playing.
Popular sites for connecting with loved ones I have found are, Zoom, Skype, Facetime, and Facebook Video Chat; all have free options and are their to help you stay connected.
5 Ways to Connect with Kids From a Distance
1. Eye Spy
Have the adult say to your child "I spy with my little eye something Blue" your child will then run around your home to find something blue to bring back to the screen and present! Keep going with different colors and shapes.
2. Story Time
Just before bedtime have the adult read a child's book to your little ones. If they don't have children's books on hand they can always make up a bedtime tale.
3. Self Portrait
Have the adult begin by doing their best drawing of your child while they sit still, and then the child can draw you! The best part about this one is the worse the picture the more fun the fame is.
4. Read My Lips
For this game each person takes turns mouthing a phrase with no sound and the receiving person has to guess what you said.
5. Play a Board Game or Virtual Bingo
Pick any game you have that your kids love and just include your online loved ones. Have your children take turns rolling for them and moving their pieces. We did this the other night and it was absolutely hysterical. For Bingo the cards will have to be sent via email ahead of time to all who are playing, you can find some with letters, and pictures HERE.
**You can always work out fun prizes ahead of time with the adult at home to make it even more fun!
